To be accredited by the American Montessori Society, our school underwent a comprehensive self-study and consultation process. Among the many standards required are that we have a full complement of Montessori learning materials in each classroom, and that we have a fully qualified teacher in each classroom. To be fully qualified, the teacher must have a Montessori Credential for the age she or he is teaching. At Crystal Lake Montessori School, we are fortunate to have not just one, but two teachers in almost all classroom who have Montessori credentials, or are in the process of completing their internship, which is the final phase of the credential program.
To become a Certified Montessori teacher requires one to two years of graduate work including one or two years of internship in a Montessori classroom. There is a specific program and credential for each age group: birth to three years, three to six years, six to nine years, nine to twelve years, twelve to fourteen years and fourteen to eighteen years. Many of our staff members have credentials for more than one age level. Some of our staff members are also instructors for the Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center. We are fortunate to have a highly qualified and experienced staff.
